Arguably no other major franchise has inspired so many great artists over the years than Star Wars. From the saga’s original conceptual genius Ralph McQuarrie to the fan art that adorns the walls of Hero Complex, Gallery 1988 or Bottleneck Gallery, there are literally THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of artworks to filter through when compiling a list of the best Star Warsposter art ever.

Some great posters there. One of my favorites that was actually used as a movie poster is the “One Year Old Today” poster with the action figures on it. “Star Wars” played for over a year in many places and the action figures were already iconic within that short span of time.

I’m not familiar with that one. What to this day amazes me about the Star Wars posters is not only how beautifully they were rendered, but how much was going on in them. I still look at some and will notice something I never noticed in all the times I looked at it. While not movie posters specifically, my favourite SW posters were the ones distributed through Burger King; they were sort of watercolors and were absolutely fantastic.

I would love to actually order most of those, as long as no prequel stuff is on it;-)

Here’s the action figure poster. I remember seeing this hanging in the theater. http://a99kitten.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/SW-Birthday.jpg

Yes! THOSE BK posters. I KNOW I have the Chewbacca and Luke one. They’re a tad tattered; they’re still lovely. I’ve never seen the “One year old today” one. That’s neat-o!

BTW – I remember seeing and buying my first action figures. Luke, Ben, C3-PO, and R2-D2 … AND the land speeder! I think they were originally $1.99 each? The LS was $9.99?

The action figure were $1.99. My dad came home with a stormtrooper and a C-3PO. Those were my first two. I got a landspeeder shortly thereafter.

And that’s another thing that Star Wars changed: the scale of boy’s action figures from 12″ and 8″ to 3.75″

Yes! Huge (pun intended) change!

Hey! Were you one of those people like me who used the Sears catalogue as a way to discover new SW toys? Man, I’d DROOL over the pages. I also remember getting the Death Star and Millennium Falcon. I think the DS was $24.99. I can’t recall the ORP of the MF. I’d assume about the same.

Not only that: I still have all the Sears Christmas catalogs (and some Wards and Penneys) from roughly 1973 to 1984.
